Inspired by Christina Fernandez’s reenactment of her grandmother’s migration, I wanted to illustrate the moments that I spent with my grandmother and how they will always live on. Since she passed away November 2018, it was important to show my relationship with her and how she impacted my life.
I wanted it to be a self portrait because it is a topic very close to my heart and I felt that in order to portray the emotions I was looking for it needed to include myself. My grandmother and I played backgammon many days and nights and it is one of my fondest memories of her. Little did I know then how those simple moments would have an everlasting impact on my life.
